MSG – The Story Of West Papua: 1985, Onwards

by admin
In the aftermath of MSG 22 held in Port Vila, Vanuatu, the story of West Papua is being interpreted, but the conclusions are obvious.
One of them is the MSG’s emphasis on decolonization, which combined with the embrace of FLNKS, sends a strong signal to other Melanesian independence movements that may have a legitimate claim to be part of the organization.
During the 22nd MSG Leaders Summit held in Port Vila, Vanuatu from 23 – 24 August 2923, the fate of West Papua under Indonesian occupation for decades since 1960s was deliberated.
This has happened since 1985 when MSG was born in Goroka.
Another conclusion. The decision by MSG to bring in Indonesia to be associate member has put the sub – regional political grouping in a precarious position, in which a conclusive decision on West Papua is being stuffed up, stifled.
Final conclusion. 1985. By 2023, West Papua was knocking on the right door. MSG failed instead of escalating its options on self – determination for West Papua.
