PRIME Minister James Marape has thanked the European Union (EU) for supporting the bringing in of investors to the country.

During the Europe night in Port Moresby on Tuesday, he said the EU had been with Papua New Guinea every step of the way, just like the other sister nations.

“Amid the programmes that you run, we enhance trade, commerce and business and I want to thank EU for that,” PM Marape said.

He said it paved the way for the EU and PNG to work together and appreciate each other’s interest.

“It gave us an opportunity to reflect on the need for shared interests and the need to appreciate each other’s sovereignty,” PM Marape said.

“It also helped us to live and work together.”

Prime Minister Marape thanked the British high commissioner and the French ambassador for shouldering some of PNG’s burdens.

“Great Britain has been very far from PNG but with the work of the high commissioner, they have shouldered some burdens for PNG,” he said.

He thanked the EU for helping PNG and for bringing in the latest French company Total.

“Thank you for bringing investors our way, the latest being Total coming into our family to take charge of our second biggest LNG project,” he said.
