CARETAKER Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare has called on the staff of the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet to continue rendering support to his successor as farewelled them last Sunday night.
The OPMC staff was joined by loyal Ministers and Backbenchers of the DCC Government at a farewell fellowship dinner hosted by the Sogavare family at the Prime Minister’s residence at Lunga.
Mr Sogavare thanked staff for their services during his tenure in the last three years, saying he has enjoyed all efforts provided to him as Prime Minister of Solomon Islands and as the leader of the Democratic Coalition for Change Government (DCCG).
Parliament will elect a new Prime Minister Wednesday this week after Sogavare was removed in a Motion of No Confidence on Wednesday 8 November.
“I want to thank you all for the support you have rendered to me as a leader and I would like to encourage you to continue to support our next Prime Minister after Wednesday’s election,” he said.
He added that staff support is crucial in implementing government policies and decisions that are intended to build our country.
Secretary to the Prime Minister, Dr Fred Isom Rohorua who spoke on behalf of the staff said Mr Sogavare is a unique person that has demonstrated exemplary leadership qualities.
He said his admiration for Sogavare’s leadership has convinced him to return to serve in the country after spending a good number of years working overseas.
Similarly, Secretary to Cabinet James Remobatu described Sogavare as a strong leader both in politics and in the public service.
Remobatu said he is honored and privileged to have served under the leadership of such a strong person like Sogavare in the last three years.
“I have learnt a lot from this man through the leadership skills that he has demonstrated when I met him in person,” Mr Remobatu said.
Loyal DCCG Ministers and Backbenchers also echoed similar sentiments, saying, they have learnt so much from Mr Sogavare and they will continue to support the implementation of the DCCG policies and programmes under any new Prime Minister who is elected on Wednesday.
