The Vatican Ambassador to Papua New Guinea Archbishop Kurian Mathew Vayalunkalhas will visit the Autonomous Region of Bougainville this week.
Monsignor Kurian Matthew Vayalunkal also known as the Apostolic Nuncio to PNG is undertaking a three day visit at the invitation of the Bishop of Bougainville, his Lordship Bishop Bernard Unabali to meet with youths.
He is expected to arrive in Buka on Friday 13 July and travel to Arawa to meet youths from South and Central Bougainville. On 14 July, he will meet with youths from North Bougainville before leaving the region on Sunday 15 July.
Bishop Bernard said the Apostolic Nuncio’s trip was important as it would highlight crucial issues affecting youths in the region.
“We have problem youths – they’re a lost generation who need priority in rehabilitation to settle back into their communities. They account for 60 per cent of the total population.” Bishop Unabali said.
He was concerned that the various youth incentive programs that should make an impact in the lives of youths are not having the intended effect on communities
