PAPUA New Guinea would not have achieved the successful hosting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Leaders Summit in Port Moresby without China’s support.
Prime Minister Peter O’Neill was thanking Chinese President Xi Jinping on his two-day State visit to PNG on Thursday and Friday.
“PNG could not achieve the hosting of Apec Leaders Summit this year without the support from China,” he said.
“And on behalf of our people and our government, I thank the President and the People’s Republic of China for your strong support to PNG.”
O’Neill said the visit by President Xi marked the beginning of a new journey between the two countries that would build on the strong and mutual friendship they two countries had enjoyed over the past 40 years.
“China is a strong partner to PNG and will always be a strong partner going forward into the future,” he said.
He also acknowledged the support from other members of the Apec economies in assisting PNG to host Apec in Port Moresby this year.
