The Sub-Committee on Legal & Institutional Issues (SCLII) of the Melanesian Spearhead Group is currently meeting in Port Vila, Vanuatu.
The SCLII comprising representatives of the Member States are meeting on the direction of the Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) and the Foreign Ministers Meeting (FMM) to review key policy documents to guide the work of the Secretariat. The meetings of the SOM, the FMM and the Leaders were held recently on 10-12 March 2018 in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea and heard various progress, challenges, and achievements of the Secretariat.
The two-day meeting at the MSG Headquarters will consider key policy documents including the Staff Regulations; a Secondment Policy to enable the Secretariat to work with Member States in seconding key officials to the Secretariat; a Delegation Policy; Medical Scheme Policy and a Travel Policy among other consideration.
The outcome of SCLII will then be tabled at the Governing Body meeting scheduled for later in the year.
Director General Ambassador Amena Yauvoli expressed his appreciation to the Member States for their commitment to attend and deliberate on key governance issues that will strengthen the work of the Secretariat moving forward. He emphasised that, “this meeting is one of the important meetings of the Secretariat as it informs both the SOM and FMM on key issues pertaining to strengthening good governance and significant legal consideration that will improve the work of the Secretariat.”
Papua New Guinea currently holds the chair of the Melanesia Spearhead Group.
All member states have confirmed their attendance and participation at this important meeting which ends on Thursday the 3rd of May 2018.
