MEMBER for Middle-Fly, Hon. Maso Hewabi has called on all the Members of Parliament to think about saving the country rather than prioritising their districts and provinces.
He made this call in a media conference yesterday, supporting the call made by alternate Prime Minister and Governor for Enga Province, Sir Peter Ipatas,
“If we want to fix and prioritise our district, we have to first save the country, and that is where we are,” Hewabi said.
“Few of us who are in the Opposition see that the important thing is to save the country and that’s our greatest interest,” he added.
“Most times we think that it’s important for the district, and then we are always looking at our district. We don’t care how the country is going.”
The Middle-Fly MP further stressed for leaders to think about having a country that is going to look after the provinces and districts.
“Again, the country is more important. We are elected as national leaders, not just as district MPs. We are elected to represent the country.
“As national leaders, we are representing Papua New Guinea and our greatest agenda should be to serve the country.
“We are here to serve the country, and that trickles down to our individual districts or the provinces that we represent.
“And so, the future of this country is at the hands of the elected leaders now,” said Hewabi.
“So, most of our colleague MPs who are on the other side, I want us to see, instead of narrowing down to our district.
“We have to look at the perspective of the country that we are serving. We are elected to sit in the Parliament that houses the interests of the citizens of this country. And if we are sitting in that house, that means that we are serving Papua New Guinea. So, our main agenda should be to save the country first,” Middle Fly MP stressed.
