The 7th Melanesian Arts and Culture Festival kicked off yesterday in Port Vila, Vanuatu.
The Malvatu Mauri, Vanuatu’s National Council of Chiefs, welcomed the delegations of the Pacific islands that make up Melanesia.
The delegation from Fiji, New Caledonia, the Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, and West Papua were welcomed at Vanuatu’s Saralana Park.
Delegations from the six provinces of Vanuatu — Malampa, Penama, Sanma, Shefa, Tafea, and Torba — were welcomed on Tuesday.
The festival will run until July 31 and will be a celebration of Melanesian heritage and identity, bringing together artists, performers, and cultural practitioners from across the region to promote and preserve traditional arts and culture, while also providing a platform for contemporary expressions of Melanesian identity.
